A Poker of Eco-friendly DIY Backyard Ideas
A backyard is an asset that most people living in residential buildings do not have. But, when are living in a house, a back yard is a given and should be turned into something special. It is basically a piece of nature right behind your home and it is full of opportunities. You can drink your morning coffee there, have a lunch, build a pool or a sports court, host barbecues and garden parties! But, in order for your backyard to be welcoming and functional, you have to invest some time and effort into it. Here are several ideas that could turn your backyard into an exciting place for the entire family.
A Garden Path
A backyard pathway is more than a way to get from one side of it to the other, but also a touch of creativity and imagination in your backyard. It does not have to be overly complicated or take too much of your time – but it should not be limited to a few tiles or bricks randomly scattered around.
There are various ideas you could explore, as well as a wide selection of materials – from stone to wood and everything in between – and a lot of these can be recycled and eco-friendly, too! If you are creative, you will surely come up with an exceptional design and a pattern that you will just love.
A Set of New Decorations
Just because it is outdoors does not mean that your backyard should not be decorated. With a combination of modern and traditional materials, you too can furnish your backyard and create an inviting and interesting space that will be perfect for all your backyard activities.
What most people do is create separate decorations – recycled mirrors, chalkboards, benches, candle lanterns, etc. – that all follow the same theme. Keeping them frugal and eco-friendly, your decorations will not only blend into the natural look of your backyard, but also accentuate its unique landscape design. These design and decorations ideas can be found online and you can always turn them into your own DIY projects.
An Outdoor Cinema
This is one of the eco-friendliest ideas ever! An outdoor cinema is an embodiment of how you should insert Mother Nature into your life and vice versa. All you really need is a movie projector and a good backyard organization. While most people use a projection screen for playing movies, you can avoid this step and direct your projector onto an outside wall of your house.
Furthermore, an outdoor cinema is a great way to decorate your backyard with some new accessories as well – from floor cushions and DIY lamps to a coffee table made from an old tyre. All of these will not cost a lot, yet will create a great eco-friendly atmosphere for you, your friends and family.
When you have children, inspiring them to stay outside as much as possible is an imperative. Instead of sitting in front of the TV or playing video games, they could be running in your backyard, playing and exploring nature. That is why a treehouse is such a good idea – and, since you can make it from recycled wood and use all sorts of sustainable materials, it is also eco-friendly.
Depending on how complex you want your treehouse to be, its construction can take anything from two days to a fortnight. But, if you have a good plan, you can easily build it on your own, and even invite your children to join in the fun. That way, they will appreciate it even more once it is built.
Some of the other ideas you can try to incorporate into your backyard are rope swings, a fire pit or a barbecue stand accompanied with a small outdoor kitchen or, finally, a small garden where you can grow vegetables, herbs and spices. All of these will create a new look for your backyard and give you a chance to spend more time in the open.
